JAMMU, Mar 3: Dr Vikas Sharma, S/o Harbans Lal Sharma and Pushplata Sharma, R/o Sector No-3, Channi Himmat, Jammu, has been conferred with Bharat Jyoti Award for his meritorious services and outstanding performance in the field of natural products. The award was presented to him recently during the seminar organized on National Integration at New Delhi. Dr. Sharma is doing research on the anticancer potential of medicinal plants from Jammu region. He has screened more than 30 local medicinal plants for their anticarcinogenic properties of which desi karela, pudina, adrak, safed aak, kari patta and desi amla were found more effective against human cancer cells originated from different tissues. Dr Vikas Sharma is presently working as Asstt. Professor in the Division of Biochemistry & Plant Physiology, SKUAST-Jammu.
