Srinagar, Mar 7: Hundreds of temporary teachers engaged in various schools in last year’s academic calendar, today protested against the Government’s decision to disengage them.
The protesting teachers said that they were engaged by a cabinet order (482-EDU of 2014, dated 02-07-2014) by the Department of School Education at revenue village level across the State for one academic year. “We were selected purely on merit basis after proper procedure and were absorbed at different vacancies in Government schools,” the protesting teachers said.
However, they were shown doors within two months of their services. “Many of the youth employed on one day, were informed next day that their contract has been ended,” they said.
The protest was organized under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Temporary Teachers Association-2014, Kashmir division.
Nighat Shahnawaz, one of the protesters from Budgam said that she got contract after running from pillar to post for three months, but had to face embarrassment after the School Education Department announced that her contact ended within few days.
“This is an embarrassing situation for more than 8400 highly qualified candidates across the State, as scores of them were shown exit door within one day of service,” she said, adding, Schools Education Department was playing with their sentiments.
The aspirants said, hundreds among them were earlier engaged in private sector and left their jobs for the same post, but they have to face mental trauma due to the wrong decision of Government after their expulsion from the department within two months.
Shouting slogans in support of their demand, these protesting temporary teachers said that many of them have even crossed the age limit of being eligible for a government job.
“All the teachers are highly qualified in which 112 candidates have PhD in different subjects, so they deserve to be absorbed in the department,” they protesters demanded.
Demanding continuation of their services, the protesters said that they were ready to serve the department on meager salaries, which would help the department to strengthen its “much needed” human resources to improve the overall education system in the department.
