JAMMU, Mar 16: A large number Resident doctors of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu and Associated Hospitals this evening gathered in the premises of GMCH and held a protest demonstration against Health Minister (HM), Chowdhary Lal Singh for misbehaving with lady doctor, Dr Gurmeet Kour, few days back.
Chanting the slogans of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao aur Lal Singh se beizati karao”, “Shame Shame Shame, we want Health Minister not Monster” and “Change Lal Singh”, a massive protest was held by RDA members against the abusive and arrogant behaviour of the Minister. The protesting doctors demanded Health Minister to tender unconditional apology from the aggrieved lady doctor with whom he misbehaved in full public view.
Addressing the protestors, RDA president, Dr Neeraj Sharma said, “Instead of providing basic amenities to the patients in hospitals, the Minister is distracting the attention of general public by sticking to his obsession for Aprons…Apron is not supposed to treat patients…Hospitals need staff, security, ventilators, medicines, monitors and a good human and civilized behaviour by concerned Minister.
He said that the false promises of security arrangement in GMCH and Associated Hospitals made by the Minister recently have been exposed in just one week, as no security barring 4-5 private security personnel are available in the hospital premises.
Later, the protesting doctors took out a peaceful protest march towards civil secretariat but they were stopped by heavy contingent of police and paramilitary personnel at Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk.
He said that doctors will not tolerate arrogant behaviour of the Minister and condemned the Minister for misbehaving their colleague lady doctor.
Meanwhile, RDA SMHS and Associated hospitals extended strong support to the “No Apron’ campaign and protest of RDA GMC Jammu, in a meeting held today. The speakers also demanded an unconditional apology from the concerned Minister.
