Chander’s fifty goes in vain as skipper Kuldip takes RCC to finals

JAMMU, Mar 25: Despite superb 53 runs and splendid fielding display by Chander of Oriental Cricket Club (OCC),  RCC Srinagar’s skipper Kuldip Kumar, who is usually known for wrecking havoc with his left-arm spin bowling, today showed class, composure, guts and grit with his bat when it mattered the most, taking his side to the finals in the ongoing KC Sports Club T20 Cricket Tournament at KC School ground, here.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, OCC scored a modest total of 122 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Chander played a brilliant knock of 53 runs off 47 balls, studded with 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Vineet and Varun contributed 21 and 14 runs to the total respectively. For RCC, Kuldip Kumar took 2 wickets by conceding 17 runs in his 4 overs, while Satish Kumar and Sourav Chopra claimed 2 wickets each by giving away 21 and 34 runs in their 4 overs respectively.
In reply, RCC managed to scored the required runs in 19.3 overs by losing 9 wickets to win the match in an exciting contest by 1 wicket. Atul Sharma top scored with 32 runs off 37 balls with 5 boundaries, while Puneet Wattal contributed well-made 22 runs to the total. At one stage, RCC needed 41 runs off 30 balls, with 2 wickets in hand when skipper Kuldip and Honey played sensibly to take their side near to its wicket target, when athletic Chander showed motor-ability and plotted the dismissal of Honey with a magnificent throw from long-on. After his dismissal, RCC needing 7 runs in last six balls, with last pair in the middle, which Kuldip and the last batsman Dilbagh managed in the first three balls. For OCC, experienced veteran, Vikas was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 4 important wickets by conceding 19 runs in his 4 overs, while Varun and Pardeep claimed one wicket each.
