SRINAGAR, Mar 26: Dozens of Anganwadi workers of Kashmir province today protested against the Government for failure to enhance their salary, status of Government employees, promotion of senior Anganwadi workers to supervisors and grant of SRO 144 in case of death of employee.
Holding placards, these workers raised anti-Government slogans, saying the present coalition Government is following the footsteps of previous government.
“We demand enhancement of salary to Rs 10,000 per month for Anganwadi workers and Rs 8000 to helpers,” they said.
Terming the Government’s casual attitude towards these employees as exploitation of human resources and violation of labour laws, the protesters said they can’t tolerate it in future and threatened the government if it fails to fulfill their genuine demands.
The agitating workers said the Government has neglected them in the 2015-16 budget passed recently by state Government and their genuine demands were not raised in the assembly.
The employees also demanded that retirement benefits be given to them in the form of pension.
As they were proceeding towards Residency Road to convey their grievances, police personnel deployed on the venue stopped them and some of the workers were taken into preventive custody.
