JAMMU, Apr 15: Lauding the efforts of promoting traditional rural sports, Provincial president National Conference, Devender Singh Rana today expressed happiness over youth evincing immense interest in the competitions like wrestling in an era dominated by cricket and soccer.
Speaking at a prize giving function at the conclusion 104th edition of the Vishal Dangal at Jandrah in Nagrota Assembly Constituency this evening, Mr Rana said wrestling remains a passion for its practitioners and fans whose number is no less, notwithstanding the challenge being posed by other popular games. The event was coordinated by Kishori Lal Sharma, Ex Sarpanch of the area.
“The enthusiasm among the wrestling fans is reassuring that the game still holds big promise for talented youth”, he said and congratulated the competitors for making the event live and breath-taking by putting in their best in the competition.
He said the spirit demonstrated by the fans needs to gain momentum in the years to come so that Wrestling, Kabbadi and Kho-Kho etc get a big fillip.
Mr Rana hoped that the initiative taken by the Omar led government in promoting rural sports will continue to get governmental attention and encouragement so that the youth energy is channelized towards proper direction. He described sports imperative for overall personality development and urged the youth to participate in the games in a big way, alongside pursuing academics.
