NAGROTA, Apr 16: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today objurgated PDP-BJP Government for turning blind eye towards Jammu’s legitimate aspirations, saying the coalition was deliberately ignoring simmering resentment among people over denial of All India Institute of Medical Sciences for this region.
He said the BJP is so much intoxicated by power that it has shelved the lofty promises made during elections by selling dreams and inciting passions over, what they used to say, regional discrimination.
“Now that they were supposed to deliver, they have surrendered even basic obligation of representing genuine aspiration as public representatives in a bid to remain glued to power”, Mr Rana said while addressing public meetings at Kishenpur, Upper Kathar, Lower Kathar and Nagola Panchayats in Nagrota Assembly Constituency and described BJP’s nonchalant response to a situation created by vision-less Government at the Centre in connivance with the State Government as sheer betrayal to the massive mandate they got in the Assembly elections.
While lauding the decision to setup AIIMS in Kashmir, the Provincial President said that Jammu equally deserves the facility, particularly in view of its peculiar needs, topography, remoteness of various areas and above all being the premier pilgrim destination of the country. He accused the PDP led Government of being callous and insensitive to Jammu’s cause and forcing people to come to streets.
He urged Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to rise to the occasion and lead an All Party Delegation to the Prime Minister for seeking AIIMS for Jammu. He said Mr Sayeed should understand that he is Chief Minister for all the regions and all sections of the society.
“The present Government must emulate the spirit with which the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had agitated the issue of Central University at right quarters in New Delhi and got two varsities for the State as a special dispensation, one each in Kashmir and Jammu”, he said, adding that National Conference does not believe in facilities for one region at the cost of the other. This is unacceptable, he said and hoped that the present dispensation will understand this and not lose further time before the situation gets out of control.
Mr Rana said the people of Jammu were rightly feeling a sense of hurt and deprivation as the PDP-BJP coalition has miserably failed in taking cognizance of their legitimate demand. “Instead of appreciating the problem, the duo is taking sadistic pleasure in the unrest among people over the issue of AIIMS”, he added.
The Provincial President asked the PDP-BJP combine to appreciate paradigm shift in political discourse which has elevated from routine politicking to aspirational politics, where peoples’ yearnings remain supreme. He said good politics leads to good governance and those failing to feel public pulse end up in creating a mess, which a state like Jammu and Kashmir cannot afford. He said National Conference has never ever discriminated any region or section of society and it is in this context that the party has been endevarouring to seek justice for all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
