Zulfkar reviews progress of developmental schemes for tribals

JAMMU, Apr 16: Minister for CA&PD, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali convened a high level meeting here today to discuss the modalities for socio-economic development and uplift of tribal people.
The meeting dwelt in detail on various issues including status of and utilisation of funds under different schemes, besides evolving a comprehensive strategy for the inclusive development of tribal areas.
The Minister directed the Director Planning to ask DCs to conduct special survey for identification of tribal areas lacking basic amenities and submit the same to the ministry at the earliest. He asked the School Education Department to provide comprehensive plan regarding establishment of new schools in tribal areas besides exploring possibilities for opening of mobile schools. He also sought information regarding the status of 100 mobile schools which were announced earlier.
The Minister directed Director RUSA to submit a report regarding steps being taken up by Higher Education Department for construction of separate hostels for tribal students. Besides, he also discussed measures for providing more facilities to students as union government has allocated sufficient funds for upgradation of education system for tribals. He said no deviation of funds, being allocated by HRD ministry for tribals would be tolerated and it will be ensured that these are utilized only for development of weaker sections of the society.
The Minister asked the Health Department to workout strategies for ensuring comprehensive healthcare facilities for nomadic population like establishment of mobile dispensaries. He said there is need to provide road connectivity and related facilities to these people as they too have equal right to progress and prosperity.
Laying stress on upliftment of marginalized section of society, the minister exhorted upon different departments to adopt an integrated approach to bring these people at par with their brethren so that they can also participate in mainstream life.
Among others Commissioner Secretary Health & Medical Education, Commissioner Secretary PHE, Principal Secretary Power, Secretary Social Welfare Department, Special Secretary Planning, Director Tribals, Director RUSA, Director Education besides other officers of the concerned department attended the meeting.
