JAMMU, Apr 19: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today said that the PDP-BJP Government headed by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is committed to provide better amenities to the people. He said special focus is being given to upgrade the living standards of weaker sections and downtrodden people.
This was stated by the Minister while interacting with the farmers during his extensive tour to Bashat village of Chenani constituency today. The Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology, Pawan Kumar Gupta accompanied Mr Hanjura during his visit.
The Ministers took stock of crop and vegetable damages in the area. They also inspected Cocoon Seed Rearing Centre, Sial Sallan and Cocoon Warehouse Chery Udhampur.
The farmers apprised him about their problems. The Ministers gave them patient hearing and assured that every possible help will be provided by the Government to mitigate the farmers problems. They said the directions have already been given to the Revenue and Agriculture Departments to constitute joint teams to assess the damages to standing crops, vegetables, pulses, oilseeds and other field crops caused due to recent heavy rains. They said the instructions were also given to them to submit their detailed reports to their concerned quarters so that compensation is given to the affected farmers well in time.
At Bust village, farmers demanded availability of seeds in the area as the agricultural land of the area has a huge potential for vegetable production. Mr. Hanjura directed the Agriculture Department to ensure availability of quality and hybrid seeds in the area to maximize production. He said that any lapse in this regard will not be tolerated.
The Minister for Agriculture instructed the concerned officers to make aware farmers about the various Centrally Sponsored and State Sector schemes including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana(RKVY), National Food Security Mission (NFSM) and National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA).
Mr. Hanjura called for organizing of Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs) under National Vegetable Initiative under Urban Clusters (NVIUC) Programme in Bashat, Tandhar, Gaurikund and Mantalai in Chenani area to facilitate the easy marketing of their produce.
A team of senior officers of Agriculture, Revenue and Sericulture accompanied the Minister during his tour.
