JAMMU, Apr 22: Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir presented Samta Award-2015 to Gandhi Seva Centre Mendhar at a function organized by Gandhi Global Family (GGF) at K L Saigal Hall, here.
Kiran Bala and Babu Kasturi Lal received the award on behalf of the Gandhi Seva Centre.
The award has been instituted by GGF in the memory of former Deputy Prime Minister, freedom fighter and social reformer Babu Jagjivan Ram and is conferred every year to organizations or individuals who have been working, following footsteps of father of nation and freedom fighters.
Speaking on the occasion, Mir recalled the contribution of Father of Nation and freedom fighters.
Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, MLC also attended the programme as guest of honour.
Earlier, S.P Verma State President, GGF J&K apprised the audience regarding activities of GGF in and outside the country.
Babu Janak Raj Gupta, Ex-MP, Piran Dutta, President Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Hasrat Gadda literary figure from Kashmir, Dr. R. K. Raina from IIIM Jammu, Abdul Majid Bichoo and Showkat Ashai also spoke on the occasion.
