KATRA, Apr 29: As part of the celebration of 10th year of foundation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), the Sports Department organized a final cricket match, which was played between Nilgiri XI and Vidyanchal XI in the University Cricket ground, here.
The match was held under the overall supervision of Ashok Kumar, Director Sports SMVDSB and Dr Ajay Sharma, president Board of Sports Activities.
Prof S K Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University was the chief guest on the occasion, who interacted with the players of both the teams.
Dr Ajay Sharma welcomed the chief guest, Ajay Khajuria, Registrar, Jugal Khajuria, Dean of Students and other dignitaries on the occasion.
He also presented a resume of marathon sports activities being organized for the last 15 days in the University in various disciplines.
The final match was won by Nilgiri XI by a big margin of 50 runs. The team scored 165 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, while in reply Vidyanchal XI scored 115 runs.
From the winning side, Surmant Kumar top scored with 45 runs, while Sourabh and Ashish Yadav contributed 40 and 29 runs respectively. Ashish Ranjan of Vidyanchal XI took 2 wickets in 4 overs by giving away 30 runs, while Ashish Yadav from the side of Nilgiri XI took 3 wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 30 runs.
The dignitaries including Prof S K Jain, Ajay Khajuria Registrar Vinod Sharma, Administrator, R S Charak Chief Security Officer, Capt. Sucha Singh and Ashok Kumar, technical expert, distributed prizes among the winners and the runners-up teams.
