JAMMU, May 2: The Minister for Transport Abdul Gani Kohli today pulled up State Road Transport Corporation management over poor maintenance of its fleet and not up to the mark services.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the overall functioning of the corporation, the Minister asked the functionaries to deliver or face the music.
“Improve work culture and turn over otherwise strict action would be taken against erring officials” Minister warned while inspecting JKSRTC counter at Bus Stand and Corporation’s Workshop at Narwal here today.
The Minister took serious note of the poorly managed workshop and lack of proper system for early repair and maintenance of the huge fleet of buses and trucks owned by the corporation.
Checking the records at Deployment and Commercial section, the Minister took serious note of the practice of engagement of buses and goods carriers by the corporation. He asked the management to stop this practice at the earliest and put their own vehicles to full use to save the corporation from turning defunct.
He said the Government was keen to see this corporation flourishing by earning good revenue and providing efficient services to the commuters in different parts of the state. He asked the Management to draw a proper schedule for its buses so that before leaving the station these are booked full to the capacity like private transporters do.
“It is often seen that the SRTC buses leave the station without full booking and instead of earning revenue these incur losses”, he said and added that if this practice continue a day will come when the Government would be forced to shut the corporation which provides livelihood to several hundred families.
The Minister hoped that the Corporation will take measures to improve its functioning to become self-reliant and growth oriented.
