BEIJING, May 3: Over one lakh people residing in remote or poor areas in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will be relocated this year in a bid to improve their living conditions.
A total of 1,08,300 people will be relocated this year, the regional poverty relief office said.
More than 85,000 live in such tough conditions that rural life is unsustainable. The other 23,000 are ecological migrants, threatened by geological disasters and a fragile environment.
Over 150 new residential communities are to be built in other parts of the province with the kind of standard facilities current communities lack, including water and power supplies, schools, television and Internet access, and fitness equipment, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. (PTI)
