Manohar demands compensation for farmers

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 5:    Former Minister and Congress leader Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has alleged that  State Government was not serious in providing relief/ compensation to the farmers whose crops were badly damaged due to recent hailstorm and rains.
Dr Sharma visited  different villages including  Dhamal, Ladoli and  Tandiari of Hiranagar tehsil and village Kadarnu, Kuhnu, Dhan and Dharalta Slari of Ramkot and Billawer tehsils of  district  Kathua and interacted with various affected farmers who suffered major set back due to the continuous heavy rain and hailstorms in which wheat and other crops were destroyed completely.
The Congress leader expressed deep concern over the non seriousness  and slackness  on the part of both Central as well as State Governments towards their  genuine demand of immediate assessment of loss of  crop/property  and payment of compensation to the farmers without any delay.  He said the harvesting of crop is on full swing and after harvesting is completed it will be very difficult to assess the actual loss. It shows the non- seriousness of the Government to address this problem.
Dr Sharma said that farmers are annoyed over the attitude of the Government. Even after highlighting the problem of  crop damage and demand of  compensation/relief at various levels like political parties, opposition parties and Kissan organizations at highest level no action has been taken by Government.    The PCC leader  observed that  farmers have shown anger over the casual approach of the Government towards their genuine demands and they feel deceived by the present dispensation. He appealed the Government to take immediate steps towards the payment of relief / compensation to the affected farmers without further delay.
