JAMMU, May 11: Devasthan Prabhandak Committee (DPC) Bijbehara in its meeting held here today has expressed grave concern over the encroachment of land of Hindu shrines by some unscrupulous elements in Bijbehara township of South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
The meting said ever since the new alliance took over in the State, repeated attempts were made to encroach the land of temples of Bijbehara in connivance with district and tehsil level revenue authorities.
The meeting said the matter was regularly brought into the notice of the authorities but they showed a lackadaisical attitude and did not care to attend to the very sensitive issue which can result into crisis. Suspecting the intensions of the Government the Committee said that it raises a question mark on oft repeated statements of the Government on the safe and honorable return of displaced Pandits to Valley.
The meeting said first the land of Lord Shiva temple (Harish Chander Ghat Temple) on National Highway adjacent to Gurudwara was encroached and a structure was raised on one portion of the temple land in last month.
This was followed by encroaching of 6.5 kanals of land belonging to Mata Jaya Bhagwati near NH Bijbehara.
The Committee has made an appeal to the community to show solidarity in raising their voice against these encroachments and failure of the State Government in protecting the property belonging to the sacred and historical temples of Vijeshwar (Bijbehara).
