Sir,
Every day we read in different newspaper and watch in different local TV channels that many depressed people commit suicides by jumping in the sacred Tawi and Chenab rivers to end their lives. Slowly and slowly, these bridges are emerging as easy suicide points to Jammu people where any depressed person can reach easily and put his and others life to trouble. Soon after any such incident police and administration starts rescue operation to find the body of deceased. However, it is difficult for police to stop these incidents, as in the heart of city, there are five bridges on the Tawi river and one on river Chenab which is close to Jammu city. It’s the duty of the administration to put an end to this pratice by providing safety net coverage along both sides of these bridges as can be seen in various metro cities.
However, appropriate counselling and rehabilitation should be provided to the depressed people so that such incidents do not occur.
Yours etc…
