SRINAGAR, May 20: Congress today came down heavily on Centre for what is said letting down the flood victims of State and unpardonable trick played with them by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The General Seretary of All India Congress Committee, Shakeel Ahmad, told reporters here: “Kashmir is known as the crown of India. I think Modiji has played a trick with them which is not pardonable.”
Ahmad when asked that people of the State were discriminated against by the Centre as no relief was provided to the flood victims of the valley since September last year against the immediate announcement of compensation for earthquake-hit Bihar said: “I am from Bihar and let me tell, people in Bihar are unhappy and disappointed with the Modi Government.”
The Congress leader said that the Centre and the Prime Minister made tall promises to the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir last year but has not kept these promises so far. “The situation of Jammu and Kashmir is before you. Post floods, Modi and his Government made tall promises to the people here but they failed to live up to it,” he said.
Ahmad said the flood crisis of Kashmir was just one example as the BJP-led NDA government is doing the same across other States of the country.
Congress leader said due procedures should be followed while taking a decision on the application for issuance of a passport to hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for visiting his ailing daughter in Saudi Arabia. “There is a set procedure which should be followed while issuing passport to any individual,” he said.
Asked about the hoisting of Pakistani flag during Geelani’s rally in Tral area of Kashmir, the Congress leader said: “It is not good to wave the flag of another nation on our soil.”
The Congress leader alleged that the Prime Minister is maligning the image of the country on his tours abroad. “We would like to know the sins committed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his previous life for him to be born in India,” he added.
Ahmad said the Prime Minister does not represent any party, religion or group during his tours abroad and he should not have raised domestic issues during these trips. “Since Independence, forget about Prime Ministers, not even ordinary ministers have raised domestic issues abroad. The national president of the BJP Bangaru Laxman was seen by the whole nation and the world taking a bribe. Did anyone raise this issue abroad?” he asked.
The Congress general secretary said the Prime Minister, “after misleading people within the country”, has now started misleading Indians living abroad.
Ahmad said the BJP-led NDA Government had done nothing on the issue of corruption and was only implementing the “Gujarat Model” on this issue. “Most of the charges related to corruption against the UPA Government were based on the reports of the CAG, which has also said Adani (group) got benefit to the tune of Rs 40,000 crore. This report was laid in Gujarat Assembly,” he said.
Ahmad said during the elections, Modi raised the issue of black money and put the amount in thousands of crores. “Today they are saying we do not know how much black money is stashed abroad,” he added.
The AICC general secretary also raised the land acquisition bill, curtailment in budget allocations for health and education sectors, the 14th Finance Commission award and the attacks on minorities in the recent months.
