JAMMU, May 22:  Shahidi Divas of great  Guru Arjun Dev ji was observed across the State by organising various functions by the Sikh Sangat today.
On the  occasion of  Martyrs Day of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj, an impressive Kirtan Darbar was organized at Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, Jain Bazar, Jammu by the  management committee and Nirvair Social organization.  Sangat from surrounding areas of Jammu city reached Gurudwara for attending the programme.  The people from all walks of life also attended the Kirtan Darbar.
On this occasion,  Guru ka Langar (community lunch) and Chhabeel (cold water) was offered to the general public and devotees. Stalls were also arranged for the general public. The Sangat hailed the decision of  Pakistan Govt in which they have released Rs. 5 stamp of  Gurudwara Dera Sahib, Lahore on the 400 Anniversary of Arjun Dev Ji.
Bhai Devinder Singh Ji and Jatha, Bhai  Sukhdev Singh Ji, Dr Tejinder Singh  & Bibi Nirmal Kour  recited the Kirtan and  highlighted the life and struggle of the great Guru.
While speaking on the occasion Sukhbir Singh, criticized the Government for not declaring  Martyr Day of the great Guru as Gazetted Holiday. He demanded that the name of Kunjwani Chowk be named as Baba Banda Singh  Bahadur Chowk. The shops of Municipal Committee in Chand Nagar be removed, as they fall in the premises of   Gurdwara.  He also demanded punishment to those persons who are responsible for 1984 riots, implementation of Ansari Commission report on 1989 anti- Sikh riots in J&K and settlement of claims.
Meanwhile, another function in this connection was organised at Gurdwara Chhati Pathshahi, Talab Tillo, Jammu today. A large number of members of the Sikh community from Jammu city and surrounding areas  participated in the programme. Gurdwara was highly decorated by the management committee.
On this occasion, Ragi Jatha Bhai  Amandeep Singh Gurdwara Sri Seesganj, Bangla Sahib Delhi; Ragi Jatha Bjai Surjeet Singh Rasila Gurdwara Bagla Sahib  and local Ragi Jatha DGPC Jammu recited the Gurvani Path. Giani Bhagwan Singh ji of Chandigarh threw light on the life of Guru Arjun Dev ji.
A resolution with regard to pending demands like rehabilitation package for PoK refugees, setting up of Minority Commission, promotion of Punjabi language and naming road from Bikram Chowk to Jammu University as Guru Gobind Singh Marg  was adopted on the occasion.   T S Wazir,  chairman State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, Dr Pawan Kotwal Divisional Commissioner and acting chairman of DGPC Jammu besides other DGPC members were also present.
Another function  was held at Domana (Akhnoor Road) Gurdwara under the supervision of Tejwant Singh Reen. Ragi Jathas from outside the State recited Gurvani Path. Community lunch was also served to the Sangat on this occasion. T S Wazir, MLC Charanjeet Singh Khalsa and advocate Surinder Singh also attended the function.
In Udhampur, the Martyr Day of Guru Arjun Dev ji was observed at Gurdwara  Guru Teg Bahadur ji, Omara Morh. It was organised in association with 137 Bn CRPF, local Army unit  and S K Police Academy. Baba Tarsem Singh and Baba Jivan Singh ji recited Gurvani Path. Devotees offered special prayers to the great Guru. A Langar was also served to the Sangat.
