UDHAMPUR, May 28: District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament for Girls Under-14 and Under-17 years in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Volleyball and Kho-Kho got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was the chief guest on the occasion and declared the tournament open in an impressive function.
A cultural bonanza was presented by Dhoom Dance Academy Udhampur which enthralled the audience on the occasion.
Chief Education Officer, Bishan Singh, Project Director Chenani Tunnel Ways Udhampur, JS Rathore and Seva Singh, Security Consultant were the guests of honour on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest exhorted upon the students to participate more in such types of sports events to be physically and mentally fit. He also assured the participants for providing all kinds of facilities to promote sports and games in the State.
About 400 girls drawn from 9 zones of the District Udhampur participated in the tournament. The tournament is being organized under the patronage of Jahangir Mir, Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K Govt and under the supervision of Sunil Singh Sambyal, District Youth Services and Sports Officer,Udhampur.
In Volleyball Under-14 girls, Ramnagar defeated Jib zone, while in Volleyball Under-17 girls, Ramnagar zone got better of Udhampur.
In Kabaddi Under-14 girls, zone Babey defeated zone Udhampur, while in Kabaddi Under-17 girls, Majalta trounced Udhampur zone.
In Kho-Kho Under-14 girls, Jib zone outplayed Udhampur zone, while in Kho-Kho Under-17 girls Udhampur zone defeated Majalta zone.
The matches were officiated by Kuldeep Kumar, Raj Kumar Gupta, Rakesh Modi, Raj Kumar, Romesh Chander, Pushp Sharma, Raman Kumar, Bandana Sharma, Rishi Kumar Sharma and Vikrant Balgotra.
Later, the chief guest distributed sports kits to the deserving students presented by J.S. Rathore Project Director Chenani Tunnel ways.
He also distributed the consolation prizes to the Dhoom Dance Academy Udhampur, Scouts and guides of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Udhampur and Band troop of Modern High School Dhanori.
