Infiltration foiled, 2 militants reportedly killed near LoC

SRINAGAR:
Two militants were reportedly killed as alert troops foiled infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector in the frontier district of Kupwara.
However, Defence Ministry spokesman was not available to give details about the incident. Official sources said a group of four to five militants sneaked into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Tangdhar sector at Nad forest, few hundred meters away from Army Field Surgical Centre under the cover of darkness at 0430 hrs.
When challenged, infiltrators opened fire with automatic weapons, they said adding that the militants later took shelter in the Gujjar Kothars. Sources said two militants were reportedly killed so far as encounter was going on when the reports last came in. Reinforcement was rushed to the area and entire forest areas have been cordoned off to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
Further details are awaited, they said. Last week three army personnel and an infiltrator were killed near the LoC in Tangdhar. (AGENCIES)
