SRINAGAR:
Two more bodies were recovered today from the Tangdhar sector of Kashmir near the Line of Control where the Army had foiled an infiltration bid.
“Two more bodies have been recovered from the scene of encounter, taking the death toll in the operation to five,” Colonel GS of Army’s IW branch Colonel Brijesh Pandey told said.
He said four AK rifles were also recovered from the spot, indicating that at least four slain men were militants.
“Police is in the process of ascertaining the identity of the fifth person killed,” Col Pandey said.
However, sources said the fifth slain man was a civilian who was caught in the cross-firing between the militants and security forces.
The sources said the man was reportedly mentally unsound and did not leave the area when asked to do so.
Three militants were killed yesterday as Army foiled an infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector of Kashmir.
Contact was established with the heavily armed militants at around 4.30 am yesterday and exchange of firing between the two sides ended at 1920 hours last evening, an army official said.
He said search operations were resumed this morning. This was second infiltration bid by militants in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district within a week.
