SRINAGAR, June 14:  Congress activists including Gujjar and Bakerwals held  protest demonstration against Forest Minister Bali Baghat near Press Colony here today.
A large number of Congress workers particularly from Gujjar and Bakerwal community led by PCC general secretary Shahnawaz Choudhary  assembled at Press Colony and held protest demonstration. They also tried to burn the effigy of the Minister. The   police party reached on the spot and prevented the Congress worker’s attempt  to burn effigy. A brawl occurred between police party and Congress workers, leading to strong slogans against the Forest Minister and BJP Govt. They  showed strong resentment over Forest Minister’s  move to evacuate some the Gujjar families which are residing in Jammu areas and Rajouri since long.
Congress leader criticized Mr  Bhagat for creating communal tension and disturb peace in a conspiracy to evacuate the  Gujjar and Bakerwal from their homes where they are for many years.  He further asked  Bhagat that if he  really wants anti-enroachment drive of forest land, he must firstly vacate his land encroached upon  at Khasra No. 1184 at Bhawani Nagar in Jammu. They should start to demolish important buildings in Jammu city which are also constructed on Forest land.
Iftikar Ahmed, All India Election Commissioner NSUI & Youth Congress said that PDP and BJP Govt has given ownership right of land to the poor people through Roshni  Scheme in 2006 and rehabilitated thousands of people but it is very unfortunate that  Bali Bhagat instead of rehabilitating innocent and poor people is trying to throw out  people from their homes.
