Copper futures spurt, driven by global cues

NEW DELHI, June 16:  Buoyed by a firm global trend, copper prices rose Rs 1.10 to Rs 375.45 per kg in futures trade today as speculators widened bets.
At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June traded higher by Rs 1.10, or 0.29 per cent, at Rs 324 per kg in a business turnover of 324 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in August edged up by Rs 1.05, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 381.80 per kg in 12 lots.
Analysts said a firming trend in base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME) ahead of a two-day Fed meet on Tuesday on the timing of an increase in US interest rate influenced copper futures here.
Besides, rising physical demand at the domestic spot market supported the upside, they said.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.3 per cent to USD 5,833.50 per tonne at LME. (PTI)
