SRINAGAR, June 17: Two-day “Science Gadget” (Science Exhibition), which was organized by the Star Club Social Welfare Society in collaboration with Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India concluded here today.
The objective of the programme was to create interest among the students in the field of science and technology and provide them a platform to showcase their talent.
During the event 206 students from 16 schools of Kashmir valley participated and displayed their models in the field of science and technology.
Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar was chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking said the event will go a long way in motivating the students of the Valley in the field of science and technology.
He said such events provide opportunities to the students to showcase their skills in the field and create interest in them. He stressed the need for organizing more such events across the State for the benefits of students.
Maintaining that there is great worth in the students of Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said that need of the hour was to nurture them appropriately so that they can prove their talent in different fields.
He called upon the teachers to change the mindset of the students about the job opportunities and encourage them towards the public sector instead of Government sector where there is limited scope of employment. He also stressed the need for organizing frequent educational tours of students to different institutions outside the State to exchange the ideas and gain knowledge.
Referring to the upgradation of infrastructure in the institutions, the Minister said that Valley schools suffered immensely in the last year’s floods and Government has made strenuous efforts to restore the same. He said Kothi Bagh School also suffered badly, but with the efforts of school management the things are on right track now.
He said the water logging problem is a troublesome and Government has decided to put in place a heavy duty pump for de-watering the water logging from the institutions located in the Kothi bagh area.
Minister inspected the models displayed by the students and appreciated the ideas of the students. He evinced keen interest in the projects and interacted with the students sharing their imaginations.
The painting competition, essay competition, debate, science play and display of science models and cultural activities by the students were the main attraction of the event.
Later, Minister distributed prizes amongst the students who were adjudged best in various competitions. He also gave away the mementoes to the teachers and other participants.
Principal of Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh briefed the gathering about the aim and objective of the event.
Director School Education, Kashmir, Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, large number of teachers, students and members of the Star Club Social Welfare Society were also present on the occasion.
