JAMMU, June 24: After Ajit Singh Hockey Club, Mahant Bachittar Singh (MBS) Hockey Club and Hiranagar Hockey Club registered berths in the semis of the ongoing Ist Mahant Bachittar Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, being organized by Mahant Bachittar Singh Hockey Club, Makhanpur Simbal under the aegis of Hockey J&K at Government High School, Simbal Camp here today by crushing their opponents.
The first match of the day was played between MBS Hockey Club and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Club, in which former registered win by straight three goals to zero.
In the first half, Gaganpreet Singh of MBS Hockey Club scored the first goal of the match during the 10th minute.
As the opponent Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club were trying to equalize the scoreboard, Ramandeep Singh of MBS Hockey Club smashed goal in 28th minute of the game and brought the opponent team under pressure of 2-0 goals.
In the remaining 2 minutes of first half, the players of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club raided the goal side of opponent team several times but could not convert even a single attempt into goal and the first half ended with 2-0 goals lead over them.
In the second half, Navjot Singh of MBS Hockey Club netted the third goal of the match in the 40th minute.
The players of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Club failed to equalize the scorecard in the remaining 20 minutes of the second half and lost the match by 3-0 goals and paved way for MBS Hockey Club to sail into semis of the tournament.
Gaganpreet Singh of MBS Hockey Club was declared as man of the match and was awarded with cash prize of Rs 500 and memento.
In the second quarterfinal match, Hiranagar Hockey Club registered win over Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club Poonch by solitary goal in the keenly contested game.
The players of both—Hiranagar Hockey Club and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club raided the goal side of each other various times but could not convert even a single raid into goal and the first half ended with no goal.
In the second half, after finding a gap, Gorav Singh of Hiranagar Hockey Club netted the goal in the 46th minute, which the opponent team failed to equalize till final whistle of the umpire and lost the match.
During the second quarterfinal match, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club Poonch got five penalty corners and Hiranagar Hockey Club got two penalty corners. Three players of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Club Poonch namely Abhimanyu, MP Singh and Prabjot Singh got green card, whereas from Hiranagar Hockey Club side, Rohit Jasrotia got green card.
Goalkeeper of Hiranagar Hockey Club Ajay Singh was adjudged as man of the match and was awarded with memento and cash prize of Rs 500.
On the occasion, Rajinder Singh, Treasurer, Hockey India, was the chief guest, who awarded winners of man of the match titles in presence of GS Bakshi, Tournament Director, Jaspreet Singh, organizing secretary, Rajinder Singh sarpanch and Kunwarpreet Singh Sagar.
The matches were officiated by Daljeet Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Karanjeet Singh.
