Goverdhan Singh Jamwal elected president of J&K Ex-Services League

JAMMU, June 30:  In the triennial elections of the J&K Ex-Services League, Maj Gen (Retd), Goverdhan Singh Jamwal has been unanimously elected as president while Brig S S Sambyal and Lt Col D S Salaria were elected as vice-president and honorary treasurer, respectively.
The elections were held during Annual General Meeting of J&K Ex-Services League, wherein many issues of the   Ex-Servicemen of the State were also discussed by the participants from Ladakh, Kargil, Kashmir and Jammu region.
Main demands highlighted during the AGM, included One Rank One Pension, jobs for Ex-Servicemen, VAT relief etc, issuance of gun licenses to Ex-Servicemen and easy renewal of the license.
The meet also expressed its displeasure over failure of the State to acquire land for the two Sainik Colonies Rajinder Vihar at Patti, Samba and Kargil Vihar at Baran, Jammu.
All the Ex-Servicemen stressed that the district level Sainik Welfare Meetings must be held regularly by the respective Deputy Commissioners.
On the occasion, Dr Suresh Chandra, Chief Scientist, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), who is incharge of the Project ‘Aromatic Plantation’ in all the ten Districts of Jammu, spoke to the Ex-Servicemen to participate in the Project which will ensure development and job opportunities in the rural areas. He advised them to take full advantage of the new Project being introduced by the CSIR / IIIM.
Gen Jamwal lauded the efforts of  Lakshya Defence Academy, which has been  training local boys for Officers and Jawans in the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces. He advised the Ex-Servicemen to avail such  facility at a very reasonable cost.
Col Rajinder, the new general secretary conducted  the proceedings and Col Kulbir Jamwal presented the vote of thanks.
