Hold judicial probe: USC

JAMMU, July 2: United Sikh Council (USC) has reiterated its demand to hold an independent judicial inquiry into the killing of youth Jasjeet Singh in firing at Gadigarh on June 4 and criticized the Government for protecting the guilty.
In a meeting of the Council held at Digiana under the chairmanship of Kuldeep Singh, the speakers took strong exception over the failure of Government to take any step towards holding an impartial judicial inquiry into the killing of S Jasjeet Singh and injuries to the others in police firing at Gadigarh in Jammu last month.
The council rejected the Inquiry Commission appointed by the Government with Divisional Commissioner as its head. They strongly demanded that an inquiry headed by a retired High Court judge be initiated into the matter so that guilty are brought to justice.
The members said in case the authorities failed to discharge the constitutional duty, the Sikh Council will launch a mass agitation. The Council also demanded action against the then SSP Jammu Uttam Chand which has not been taken so far despite assurance by the higher authorities. The Council decided to hold candle light march on July 4 from Gadigarh to Satwari Chowk in the memory of S Jasjeet Singh.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included Ajit Pal Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Balbir Singh, Mohinder Singh, Makhan Singh and Manjit Singh.
