Government to promote inter-state cultural exchange: MoS Culture

SRINAGAR, July 7: In what may be described as a good news for theatre enthusiasts of the State, the State Government has decided to provide all the necessary assistance to the JKPCC for completing repair and renovation work of the prestigious Tagore Hall Srinagar.
This was disclosed by Minister of State for Education and Culture, Priya Sethi. She was inspecting the ongoing repair and renovation work at Tagore Hall here today.
For a start the Government has released an amount of Rs. 35 lakhs for the Tagore hall while the rest of the amount would come in phases, the Minister said.
Describing education and culture as two important parameters of development economics, Sethi said that the Cultural Ministry of the State is exploring the possibility of having inter-state cultural exchange programmes and would also facilitate visit of artists to various parts of the country.
Later in a one-on-one conversation with the Secretary Academy, Dr. Aziz Hajini the Minister said that the Government was conscious of the importance of culture and would initiate all necessary measures for its promotion.
The Minister was accompanied by Managing Director, JKPCC, PL Bhushan who apprised her about the pace of renovation works currently underway at the theatre and assured that the renovation work would be completed well in time.
The Minister said that she was keen to see the Hall being thrown open for the general public in the shortest possible timeframe.
The Hall is slated to be inaugurated on October 2 this year.
