JAMMU, July 14: Minister for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution (CAPD) and Tribal Affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today inspected the godowns of Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Nagrota and Railway Station Jammu and took stock of the availability and quality of essentials.
The Minister was informed about the stock position in both the godowns by the General Manager FCI Kishore Kumar.
Expressing satisfaction over the availability of sufficient stock of essentials in these godowns, Mr. Zulfkar said the Government is committed to provide adequate ration to the consumers and in this regard, the divisional administration is keeping strict vigil to check the quality and quantity of these commodities.
The Minister directed the CAPD officials to be cautious while lifting the rice, wheat from the FCI godowns and asked them to ensure that there is no compromise on quality.
The Minister checked the quality of stored commodities and reiterated that only quality rice and wheat would be procured from FCI.
The Minister was accompanied by Director CAPD Jammu G.S Chib, Joint Controller Metrology Department Amar Singh, Deputy Director F&R Arun Kotwal, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology M.A. Mughal and other senior officers of CAPD.
Later, the Minister also visited Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited at Gangyal and inspected the bottle filling plant there.
Taking a serious note of the matter that samples of bottles of various brands of Coca Cola collected by Legal Metrology Department were found to be contaminated, the Minister directed the concerned to recall the lot of the batch from the market and warned that strict action would be initiated for any lapse in this regard.
He asked the concerned officers to maintain strict check to safeguard the interests of the consumers stressing that no compromise with the quality of the product will be tolerated as such negligence’s can be hazardous for the consumers.
