NEW DELHI, July 14: R  S Pathania, MLA Ramnagar, today called on Union Railways Minister, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu and called for better management of rail-traffic on Jammu to Udhampur to Katra track.
He also called for double-laning of track from Jammu to Udhampur to Katra so that greater number of trains are able to run in a smoother way. “Given the quantum/volume of rail-traffic on this route, single-lane rail-line is inadequate to cater to the increasing rush of passengers,” he explained.
Mr Pathania further said that in view of day-to-day hardships of acute overcrowding/overloading of train bogies, there should be provision of additional bogies/compartments in DMU service from Jammu to Udhampur to Katra. He also requested for curbing irregular stoppage of trains and improving of time-management, as daily commuters of the train-service are facing an uphill task while travelling in these trains. He also appealed for stoppage of Uttar Sampark Kranti train at Manwal railway station for two minutes on the pattern of its stoppage at Ramnagar railway station.
The MLA appealed for introducing two additional DMU trains on Jammu to Udhampur to Katra railway track which should leave Jammu by 8.30 am and depart from Udhampur at 2.00 pm so that daily commuters and employee-passengers heave a sigh of relief. He also sought compensation/jobs for the families whose land has been acquired for laying of rail-lines in J&K.
