JAMMU, July 29: On the eve of three-day Jammu bandh, the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) today took out a candle light protest march in Jammu City.
A large number of people from all walks of life and belonging to different sections of society, participated in the march, which started from Ambphalla and passed through various bazaars of the city before culminating near Raghunath Temple. During the march, which was second in the row, protestors raised slogans for AIIMS in Jammu and against BJP.
Addressing the march, chairman of ACC and president of JKHCBA, Jammu, Abhinav Sharma, asked ruling BJP also to join the ongoing agitation for AIIMS. “The ACC doesn’t want any credit. Let the BJP take all the credit by fulfilling its written commitment. The ACC would not mind if the BJP Ministers and legislators join the ongoing chain hunger strike and cooperate us in making the declared 72-hour bandh a great success,” he said and added that if BJP fulfills its written commitment by tomorrow, no non-BJP political party would be able to exploit the prevailing situation in its favour.
Reiterating the demands for establishment of AIIMS and completion of artificial Tawi lake project, Abhinav Sharma said that ACC was not responsible for the Jammu Bandh but BJP, which was given enough time to get the demand fulfilled. He appealed people to create civil-curfew like situation in Jammu region between July 31 and August 2.
Meanwhile, Abhinav Sharma, Deepesh Pawar, Devinder Chowdhary, Narayan Singh, Zorawar Singh Jamwal and Advocate Rajesh Thappa, also addressed a public meeting at Akhnoor and appealed to the people to ensure a complete and peaceful bandh in the town. The meet was organized by Tehsil Bar Association, Akhnoor, president Prakash Sharma.
Earlier, in the morning, the persons who sat on chain hunger strike today included senior Advocate A V Gupta, Advocates Somnath Sachdeva, Roop Lal, Manohar Lal Sambyal, Rahul Sharma, Pardeep Kumar, Vijay Angral, Deepali Kapoor, Sonakshi Bhatt, Nishu Kundh, Sulekha Kangotra, Tagneet Kour, Advocates Vishal Bharti, Sheviat Khajuria, Vijay Gupta, Sudesh Gupta, Guru Partap Singh, Monika Bhagat, Nitika Bali, B O Manhotra, Pradeep Majotra, Ajay Kumar, Ashok Singh, Vishal Sadotra, Arun Sargotra, Deepak Singh Baloria, Sourav Sharma, Nazuk Kalotra, Monika Sambyal, Kapil Sharma, Thakur Dass Sharma, Subash Chnader Mishra, Mohan Lal Gupta, Parshotam Abrol, Pooja Abrol, Mohinder Dev Sharma, Kuldeep Deep, Bharat Bhushan Langar, Rajan, Ram Nivas Aggarwal, Bihari Sharma, Raju and Rajkumar.
Meanwhile, various organizations have extended their support to the ACC for proposed Jammu bandh from tomorrow for three days.
J&K Motor Transport Company Association Jammu, has extended its full support to AIIMS Coordination Committee and appealed to all the transporters to actively participate in the proposed Jammu Bandh for three -days.
Appeal in this regard was issued during an emergency meeting of the Association, held under the chairmanship of its convener S Surinder Singh Kala. The meet appealed that all kind of transport, including taxis, autos, minibuses, should remain off the road in support of the bandh for registering protest against incompetence of BJP Ministers, MLAs and MPs, who failed to get their assurance on AIIMS fulfilled.
For announcing their support to the call for Jammu bandh, a joint meeting of various Sikh organizations in J&K was held under the chairmanship of S Avtar Singh Khalsa, general secretary of Sikh United Front, J&K. The meet, attended by representatives of DGPC Jammu, Bhai Kaniya Nishkam Sewa Society, All India Sikh Students Federation, Shiromani Akali Dal, Sikh Welfare Society and Sikh Naujawan Sabha, urged the people to fully support the bandh. For the cause of Jammu, if we have to sacrifice our earnings of these three days, we should not shirk at all, the meet said.
In Samba, District Bar Association staged a demonstration cum dharna at Hari Singh Chowk and raised slogans for AIIMS in Jammu. The demonstration was addressed by Sukhdev Singh Sambyal, president of the District Bar Association Samba, who threw light on the issue of AIIMS. On the occasion, it was unanimously resolved to give full support to the AIIMS Coordination Committee call for three-day Jammu bandh.
Mata Kheer Bhawani Asthapan Trust has also extended its support to the AIIMS Coordination Committee for getting the demand fulfilled. A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the Trust, held under the chairmanship of Tej Krishan Bhat, who observed that AIIMS in Kashmir would benefit to just one region of the State whereas AIIMS in Jammu will cater to all the three regions.
