SHOPIAN, July 29: Following the road map of Central Govt initiative ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ campaign, 44 Rashtriya Rifles conducted a noble programme to provide assistance to destitute girls of KGB Vidyalaya  Girls Hostel, Shopian.
44 Rashtriya Rifles under aegis of Chinar Corps organized a programme to assist the girls belonging to economically backward families at DIET Shopian.
Brigadier K Venugopal, Commander 12 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Ghulam Mohd Dar, DC, Shopian, Md Sadik, CEO, Shopian and  Mohd Sadiq, Principal, DIET Shopian were invited to present their thoughts on the importance of girls education to the local populace of Shopian.
Monetary assistance by Lt Gen Subrata Saha, YSM, VSM, GOC 15 Corps during the Milan Programme ‘Aman Aur Awaam’ on February 2015 was also utilized for providing assistance in this event.
Gifts, blankets and utensils for kitchen were distributed among the girls during the programme.  Colonel RS Bazad, Commanding Officer, 44 Rashtriya Rifles said that, “Socio-culture factors and practices such as the status of women, patriarchal structure of the society, preference for a son, fear of dowry and the belief that it is the son who will look after the old parents and so on are the main reasons for the adverse conduct with our girls”.
Chief guest Brig K Venugopal while distributing gifts said that Army is always there for all the efforts required for the upliftment of girl child in the society.
