About 250 houses affected as power transformer gutted

JAMMU, July 30: A vast area of Sarwal today plunged into darkness after a 630 KvA power transformer installed in the area completely got damaged after it caught fire this evening.
According to the reports, the 630 KvA power transformer installed at Sarwal area suddenly caught fire this evening at about 4.30 pm after a big bang. The fire was so powerful that a fire tender was called out from Janipur to douse the flames.
In the fire, the transformer and its external wires were completely got damaged. The sky became dark due to smoke released from the burnt power transformer.
The concerned officers of Power Development Department including AEE Sushil Sudan also visited the spot and assured the people of the area that they will try their best to replace the damaged transformer with a new one by tomorrow afternoon so that people may not suffer in this hot and humid weather.
