JAMMU, Aug 6: The Jammu District Administration has asked AIIMS Coordination Committee to remove its dharna adjoining the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near Tawi Bridge link road, within 12 hours or face eviction proceedings under RPC.
“Inspite of imposition of restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC, you have been continuing your protest dharna and through this notice you are being informed to remove your dharna from the said spot along with entire arrangements within 12 hours, failing which administration shall be bound to initiate action under RPC and eviction proceeding shall begin exparte,” said an order issued today by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh.
Citing security reasons, especially in the wake of forthcoming Independence Day, the order has particularly mentioned that no permission was taken for sitting on the said vital junction and the site of dharna was also a public nuisance as the said road is highly congested due to huge traffic load.
Various inputs have been received from agencies regarding likelihood of attack from the hostile agencies and the vulnerability of dharna site also increases because of the vicinity of religious places on other sides, the Government order explains with the suggestion that the AIIMS CC may formally apply for permission for holding sit-in at a different location, which is approved by the administration.
As the order was delivered to the Chairman of AIIMS CC, Abhinav Sharma around 1 pm this afternoon, the deadline served for eviction of the dharna will end by 1 a.m on August 7.
However, on the other hand, Abhinav Sharma told Excelsior that the AIIMS CC would continue its dharna at the same venue notwithstanding an order to evict the same.
