Polo match held to celebrate Independence day

Excelsior Sports Correspondent LEH, Aug 9: As part of Independence day celebrations, a Polo match was held under the ‘Fire & Fury Corps’ at the Civil Polo Ground, here. The organizers said that the aim of organizing such events is to encourage the youth to take up Polo, which is a traditional sport of the region. The chief guest of the event was Naik Punchok Dorje, a war veteran. Ladakh Scout Regimental Centre (Blue) Team won the match in a tough contest. The event was witnessed by a large gathering including prominent civil and military officials. The locals of Leh were highly appreciative of the Army’s efforts for providing a platform for encouragement of Polo as a local sport and for strengthening bonds with the locals.
