KUPWARA, Aug 14: Under aegis of Chinar Corps, the army in frontier Kupwara district organized various events for the young students in view of the forth coming 69th Independence day.
A defence spokesman said that a quiz competition for the students of Government UPS at Karalpura was organized. “The Quiz competition was based on the history of India, history of Kashmir and afforestation,” he said, adding, there were 12 participants in the competition.
The questions posed to the participants covered the subjects widely and were well responded to, he said. “It was a closely contested competition and the audiences were awe struck by the knowledge of the competitors. The first prize was bagged by Waseem Ahmed followed by Nelofar Jan (second prize) and Mehvish Jan (third prize). The knowledge of the participants is the result of concerted efforts of the army to assist imparting quality education to children in remote areas,” the defence spokesman said.
In yet another effort to nurture the painting talent of young students in Kupwara, he said, a drawing competition for the children of SSA primary school at Loneharie was also organised.
“The theme of the painting competition was ‘Independence Day’ which was very imaginatively illustrated by the young minds participating in the event,” he said.
“The students addressed the subject very simply but at the same time brought out how they perceived our nation as a progressive well being state. There were 20 participants who were given complementary prizes for their efforts. The meritorious students were Naziya Begum (first Prize), Iqra bano (second Prize), Jahida Bano (third prize),” the defence spokesman said. He added that the efforts of the army in conducting these events for “constructive engagement” of the youth were appreciated by everyone.
