JAMMU, Aug 16: Pressing for the need to promote social forestry and plant more trees, Speaker of State Legislative Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta while touring Belicharana area of his constituency said that the attention of the people should be brought to this crucial issue as it is the need of the hour.
On the occasion, Mr Gupta promised the locals that a park with all modern facilities will be developed in the area which will be beneficial for the people of all age groups as the locals have been demanding a park for their locality from a long time now.
“As the population is increasing at a rapid pace, forcing the people to migrate to new places as there is hardly any space left in the old cities, new colonies like Belicharana are coming up very fast, which is helping the people in building homes for themselves but the negative part about it is that it increases the pressure on the environment,” Gupta said.
He further said that In order to preserve the environment, the ecological balance of the planet should be maintained and stress should be laid on the management & protection of forests; with a forestation on barren lands with the purpose of helping in the environmental, social and rural development.
Gupta called for joint efforts of civil society and administration to ensure that more and more trees are planted and special initiatives are taken to give a clean and green environment to our future generations and creating environmental awareness among all sections of the population.
