Lecturer among 4 killed, 10 injured in mishaps

SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Four persons including a lecturer and a teacher were killed while 10 persons were injured in various road mishaps across the Kashmir valley today.
A senior police officer told Excelsior over phone that employees of District Institute of Education and Technology (DIET) Pampore had gone on an excursion to Doodpathri meadow in Budgam.
“The DIET officials had hired vehicle (JK01N 5926). After returning from Doodpathri this evening, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a 20-25 feet deep gorge at Tanghaar village of Budgam,” the officer said, adding “as a result, two teachers including a woman lecturer died and left 8 DIET employees injured.”
He said all the injured were rushed to District Hospital Budgam. However, four of them were referred to Srinagar for treatment.
The officer identified the deceased as Bashir Ahmad Mir of Khrew and Aaliya Muzzafar of Rawalpora. Aaliya was a lecturer of zoology.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that a person namely Ali Mohammad Lone fell from stairs of 407 vehicle bearing registration number JK01C-9695 at Khimber in Hazratbal area of city outskirts resulting in injuries to him. “The injured was shifted to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. Police have registered a case in this regard,” the spokesman said.
In another incident, the spokesman said, a motorcycle bearing registration number JK04A-9224 driven by Shakeel Ahmad Shah collided with I-10 car bearing registration number JK07-3083 driven by Rouf Ahmad at National Highway Nuner near Boys High School, resulting in injuries to the motorcyclist and 2 pillion mates namely Bashir Ahmad Beigh and Habibullah. “All the injured persons were shifted to SKIMS Soura for treatment where motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries. Police have registered a case in this regard,” the spokesman added.
