GULMARG, Aug 23: Bidding Ceremony of Khyber Downtown Cricket League (DCL) was held in an impressive function at famous Khyber Resorts, here today.
The DCL has gained a lot of popularity in the Valley and has become an annual feature, with almost all the cricketers of repute from the State participating in this cricketing extravaganza.
International cricketer Parvez Rasool was invited as the chief guest, while another ace cricketer, Mithun Manhas was also present during the bidding process.
Two hundred and fifty six players were auctioned during the day, composing 16 teams, adding 4 more teams to the last years quota of 12 teams participating in the event.
The players were grouped in two categories of A and B. The base price for A category players was Rs 3,000 and the highest bid was Rs 27,000, while the base price for B category players was Rs 2,500 and the highest bid of Rs 23,000.
A galaxy of the First-Class cricketers of the State were auctioned for the highest bid of Rs 27,000.
As per the rules of the League, each team had the option of buying only two players from Jammu and one from outside the State.
According to the organizers the League is expected to commence from September 1, 2015.
The auction process was graced by the presence of good number of leading business personalities and the personalities from sports fraternity.
