Padmashree Chandran enthralls Goenkans with impeccable dance moves

JAMMU, Aug 24: Padmashree Geeta Chandran, a renowned artist and an alumnus of Lady Shri Ram, New Delhi, enthralled Goenkans with her graceful and impeccable dance moves in a function held in the premises of G D Goenka Public School, Jammu governed by Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust, here today.
Geeta Chandran was in the School alongwith her team comprising of Radhika Kathal-her disciple,  S Venkateswaran-the lead Vocalist, S Shankar-who played the Mridangam and Rohit Prasanna-who played the Flute.
The team is on a four day visit to Jammu for an exercise performed by SPIC MACAY- an organization for honouring Indian Artists.
The programme started with the traditional lighting of the lamp of knowledge in honour of Maa Saraswati-the Goddess of Intellect.
It was a visual treat to witness Chandran dressed in traditional Indian Bharatnatyam attire adorned with traditional Temple Jewellery.
The first performance was a Pushpanjali where she later explained the meaning of the three Namaskars that a dancer does- The first Namaskar is to the Lord Almighty followed by Namaskars to the Guru and them to the audience.
Then, she danced ‘Vande Matram’.
Ms. Chandran was gracious to explain to the audience ‘Adavus’ and ‘Jatis’ a combination of dance syllables. She also performed ‘Alarippu’ which is a pure technical Nritha.
She said that Dance requires years of practice, dedication, devotion, patience and hard work. She spoke about excellence and passion, the two driving forces for success in life.
On Popular demand, Ms. Geeta Chandran performed a dance depicting ‘Makhan Chori’ taken from a ‘ Surdas Pad’. The lyrics of the Padh were ‘ Sunder Shyam’.
The programme ended with an Interactive Question Answer Session with the students of the Middle and the Senior School.
