JAMMU, Aug 25: Residents of Bari Brahmana in Samba district today held a strong protest demonstration and raised slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) and demanded early restoration of power supply in their area.
Locals said that they had informed the authorities concerned about the crisis but nothing has been done in this regard. PDD has failed to replace the power transformer for the last four days, forcing people to come on the roads.
“The power failure has thrown normal life out of gear. PDD authorities have failed to restore the power supply to the area which was snapped four days back due to damage of local transformer. Despite repeated complaints the PDD officials are acting as mute spectators,” said Raman Gupta, a local resident.
“We were facing worst problems in this hot and sweltering summer. We are forced to spend sleepless nights in the absence of power. The position of old, infirm and children is worst as they can’t resist the scorching heat. We demand early restoration of power in our area,” said Vijay Singh,
Raman Gupta another resident said that in case the transformer was not replaced at an earliest the people will intensify the agitation.
