SRINAGAR, Aug 25: Minister for CA&PD and Tribal Affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today convened a meeting with Registrars of various universities to workout modalities for establishment of Tribal Research Institute (TRI) in State.
The meeting dwelt in detail on various aspects for establishment of the institute, its financial implications and proposed faculties etc.
Addressing the meeting, Zulfkar said the move is aimed at studying Tribal Culture, languages holistically and to explore the possibilities for better economic growth of the tribal communities.
“Tribal Research Institute would study all aspects of tribals holistically so that quality intervention and sustainable development is ensured through different Government initiatives”, the Minister added.
Elaborating the features of the institute, the Minister said creation of TRI would play a significant role in the research on tribal issues besides synergizing the efforts and activities of various departments and organizations on the subject of tribal affairs. He said the studies conducted by the institute would go a long way in guiding the policy makers while formulating any programs for the welfare of this underprivileged section of the society.
Seeking Detailed Project Report (DPR) from all the universities participating in the discussion, the Minister said focus should be on intensive study of education, health, elimination of malnutrition, and generation of awareness by organizing workshops, training programmes to ensure inclusive development at all levels
Zulfkar said that although several initiatives have been taken at different levels for overall emancipation and welfare of the community but need of the hour is to put extra efforts in implementation to plug any diversion so that only deserving get benefitted. He said requirements and development needs of tribals living in different areas vary and conduction of such a research will help in delivering as per their requirements.
Earlier, Registrars of different universities gave power point presentation about their preparation for establishment of Tribal Research Institute.
Commissioner Secretary Tribal Affairs, Secretary Tribal Affairs, Director Tribal Affairs, Registrar Kashmir University, Registrar Jammu University, Registrar Islamic University and other officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
