UDHAMPUR, Aug 25: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, a team of officials from Legal Metrology Udhampur conducted a series of surprise raids at various trade establishments of Udhampur, and other adjoining towns.
Various trades such as karyana store, hardware, poultry, medical equipment stores, ration depots, LPG outlets etc were extensively inspected and defaulters booked on the spot.
Most of the traders were found using violating packaged commodity rules whereas pre-packaged commodity mandatorily require the declaration of rate, date of packing, net content, consumer care number etc.
Meanwhile, a team from Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Rajouri conducted inspection of various trading outlets at Rajouri, Sunderbani and Thana Mandi area.
During inspection 27 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J&K Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act and Rules and Rs 19600 were recovered from defaulters.
The traders were directed to desist from unfair trade practices and use only verified weighing and measuring instruments in commercial transactions and ensure that all the packaged commodities sold to the consumers bear MRP, PKD, Net contents and complete address of the manufacturer/packer with consumer care number. The team also appealed the general public to assert their rights as vigilant consumers.
