People protest over bovines smuggling

JAMMU, Aug 25: The residents of Athem village in Nagrota handed over six bovine smugglers to police along with two vehicles. They also torched a motorcycle used by the smugglers and held protest against the police.
As per police sources, some persons were found carrying bovines through Athem village to Valley.
On seeing police team near Manwal, the smugglers unloaded the bovines in Athem village and tried to escape. But the residents of the said village nabbed them and torched one motorcycle, which the smugglers were using in smuggling offence.
The residents handed over six bovine smugglers to police along with two vehicles used for smuggling of milch animals.
The residents also held protest against the police and raised slogans for strict action against the bovine smugglers.
On getting information, SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters. He assured the people of strict action against the persons, indulged in bovine smuggling.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
However, a case under relevant Sections has been registered against the six arrested persons in concerned police station and investigation started.
