Labourer drowns in Basantar

KATHUA, Sept 9: A labourer working for laying of cable network in Ramkote area of Kathua district drowned in Basantar river where he had gone to take a bath during lunch time.
He has been identified as Shanker S/o Mela Ram of Ramban. According to police Shanker went to take a bath in the river during lunch time but he could not judge the depth of water and drowned in the ditch. By the time the other laborers reached the spot and fished out him from the river he had died. His body was shifted to Ramkote PHC for postmortem.
The Ramkote police also registered a case under relevant Sections of the law. Meanwhile some labour organizations have demanded that all laborers be insured for accidental insurance to cover their lives.
