JAMMU, Sept 11: In order to address the serious problem of water logging in Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar and Panama Chowk areas during heavy rains, a massive exercise was undertaken today jointly by the district administration, JMC, JDA, Forest Department, UEED and PWD (R&B) with the assistance of Jammu Police.
Under the direct supervision of Commissioner, JMC, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu and Vice Chairman, JDA, the anti encroachment drive was launched this morning and about 200 meter long and 12 meter wide nallah land was retrieved from the encroachers.
The Transport Nagar nallah just near Regional Transport Office complex and adjoining UEED office had been encroached and the flood water had been creating havoc in transport Nagar, Panama Chowk, Nanak Nagar, Gandhi nagar. The encroached had even damaged the UEED office complex as this nullah is catering to the huge discharge from the catchment area of Transport Nagar.
About 35 temporary as well as permanent structures were demolished, which were coming in the way of nallah. Original course of nallah will now get restored and this will ensure smooth flow of water through the nallah during heavy rains.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Director Land Management, JDA, Assistant Commissioner Nazool, Chief Enforcement Officer, JMC, DFO, Jammu and Superintendent Engineer personally supervised the entire operation.
Men and machinery required for the operation were provided by the JMC and JDA.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the recent tour of Jammu city, Minister for R&B had given instructions for clearance of nallah from all encroachment.
