Defending champion MAM College wins Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tournament

JAMMU, Sept 11: Defending champion Govt MAM College Jammu lifted the title trophy of the Inter-Collegiate Basketball (Men) Tournament, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at M.A. Stadium, here today.
In the final match, Govt MAM College once again showed its supremacy and lifted the title by defeating PG Department, University of Jammu by a margin of 18 points (80-62). Shubham Sharma and Arjun from PG. Department defended well in first three quarters but in the fourth quarter, Amanjot, Karan and Rohan of MAM College took the lead and marked their win in the final.
The Tournament was organized under the supervision of Prof Dhian S. Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Rajan Sharma, Divisional Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion, who awarded the winner trophy to the players of MAM College, while Vikas Karlopia, In-charge Tournament, presided over the function.
Balbir Singh Chib, Romesh Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Ranbir Singh and Raj Kumar Bakshi were also present on the occasion.
The final match was officiated by the technical panel of officials including Aman Sharma, Manoj Kumar, Sumit Dogra, Rajesh Bhagat and Harpreet Singh.
In Kho- Kho, PG Department beat MAM College by one innings and 3 points (10-07), while Govt SPMR Commerce College drubbed GDC Samba by one innings and 1 point (09-08)).
The matches were officiated by Anil Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Anil Kumar, Mohd Israr and Sachin Kumar.
In badminton championship held at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, quarterfinal matches were played today both in men and women sections of the tournament.
In first quarterfinal, GDC Kathua beat IDS Sehora by 3-0. Ankit Mahajan toppled Mujeeb-Ul-Rehman by 21-16, 9 – 21, 21 – 11 and Rohit Verma outplayed Anoop Mahajan by 21 – 06, 21 – 02 in singles, while in doubles, Raghu /Ankit defeated Mujeeb / Anoop by 21 – 11, 21 – 11.
In second quarterfinal match, PG Department beat GDC Hiranagar by 3 – 0. Sahil Mathur prevailed over Akhil Gupta by 21 – 11, 21 – 11 and Aman Badyal beat Dheeraj Sharma by 21 – 03, 21 – 10 in singles, while in doubles, Sahil/Aman drubbed Sourabh/Akhil by 21 – 05 and 21 – 07.
In another quarterfinal, GDC Udhampur got walk over from GDC Bhaderwah by 3 -0 and in the last quarterfinal match, MAM College beat GDC Ramnagar by 3 – 0. Irfan Hussain beat Vipul Gupta by 21-14, 21-10 and Mayank beat Sanjay Singh by 21 – 10, 21 – 03 in singles, while in doubles, the pair of Irfan and Mayank defeated Divyam / Vipul by 21 – 09, 21 – 03.
In first quarterfinal match of women ‘s section, GGM Science College drubbed GCW Udhampur by 2- 0. Diksha Mahajan beat Pragati Mahajan by 21 – 07, 21 – 04 in singles, while in doubles, Diksha/Sunali duo thrashed Pragati/Shreya by 21 – 07 and 21 – 05.
In second quarterfinal, IDS Sehora beat GCW Gandhi Nagar by 2 – 0. Keerat Preet Kour beat Suvidha Khajuria by 21 – 16, 21 – 10 in singles, while in doubles, Keerat Preet / Aditi got better of Suvidha / Mitali by 21 – 16, 21 – 17 and in the third quarterfinal, GDC Samba got walkover from GDC Billawar.
In fourth quarterfinal match, Prabhjot Kour beat Barkha Salotra by 21 – 07, 21 – 08 in singles, while in doubles, Prabhjot/Akansha Raina beat Barkha/Seemi by 21 – 0 and 21 – 01.
The matches were officiated by Vikram Jamwal, Amit Sharma, Rakesh Verma, Taranpal Singh and Ankit Sharma..
