JAMMU, Sept 14: GDC Kathua lifted Inter Collegiate Badminton Tournament in men’s category, while PG Department claimed the title in women’s category of the Inter Collegiate Badminton Tournament (M&W) held at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu , here.
The winners and runners-up were presented trophies by Dr BL. Gupta, Principal GDC Kathua who was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu presided over the function.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Moinder Sharema, Incharge Badminton, GDC Kathua, Dr Balwinder Singh, Physical Director, GDC Kathua, Balbir Singh Physical Director, MAM College, Ijaz Malik, Physical Director Commerce College, Romesh Sharma, Dr. Brij Baloria, Raj Kumar, P D Singh, Jai Bharat and Gagan Kumar.
In men’s section, GDC Kathua beat MAM College by 3-0. In singles, Ankit Mahajan trounced Irfan Hussain by 21 – 12, 21 – 13 and Rohit Verma outplayed Bashiar by 21 – 15, 18 – 21, 21 – 15., while in doubles, Ankit-Raghu pair defeated Irfan -Mayank duo by 21 – 12, 21 – 13.
In women’s section final, PG Department defeated IDS Sohera y 2-0. In singles,Prabhjot Kour beat Kreet Preet by 21 – 15, 21 – 14, while in doubles, Akanksha / Prabhjot beat Kreet Preet / Aditi 21 – 09, 21 – 07.
The matches were officiated by Vikram Jamwal, (NMIS Qualified Coach), Amit Sharma, Rakesh Verma and Narinder Singh, while the Tournament was conducted by Ravish Vaid, Table Tennis Coach, Incharge Badminton, Tournament, University of Jammu. The tournament was organized by Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Meanwhile, Inter-Collegiate Kho Kho (Men) Tournament, PG Department outplayed SPMR College of Commerce by 4 points (8-4)
The match was officiated by Anil Sharma, Anil Kumar, Ankush Sharma, Mohd, Israr, Sachin and Balbir, Gagan Kumar was the Tournament Director.
