POONCH, Sept 14: Four policemen were placed under suspension as a rape accused managed to escape from police custody when he was being shifted to Surankote from Poonch jail today.
Reports said that one Imtiaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Ghani, resident of Potha village in Surankote jumped away from police vehicle when he was being shifted from Judicial lock up at Poonch to Surankote for producing him before Sub Judge today. The police party wanted extension of his judicial custody. On the way, he managed to give slip to the police and escaped from the moving vehicle.
Meanwhile, SSP Poonch Jatinder Singh Johar has placed four cops including three Selection Grade Constables under suspension. The search for the rape accused was going on.
The suspended cops, who have also been detained for questioning, were identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad, Ayoub Ahmad and Javaid Ahmad. A fresh case has been registered against the absconder.
