Marathon organized by Department of Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control in Srinagar, in which besides locals, runners from countries like Kenya and Ethiopia also participated, have to answer two important questions if they want to be exonerated of the charge of gross neglect and inefficiency. The first question is that knowing Srinagar is a sensitive place and the gathering of ten thousand or more people at an open function is definitely fraught with serious implications, why did they not take all the necessary precautions. The second question is did the organizers take the Government of J&K, especially the DG Police J&K into confidence about the proposed marathon?
Before organising such an international event, the organizes should have put the required paraphernalia in place to ensure that there is no law & order problem. The District administration should also have ensured that all necessary clearances be taken before organising such an event.
